Artificial intelligence “hallucinations” is a thing. Recently in the news was a report of a major corporate merger announcement that never actually happened. Details were fabricated, including fake press releases, executive motions, and regulatory filings. Estimates have been made that hallucinations caused $2.3 billion in trading losses due to the industry-wide problem.
Legal tech startup today BrentWorks announced its launch to counter this problem and prevent AI hallucinations from becoming a problem. According to the statement, the new tool will scan legal documents and flag case laws, statutes and legal authorities that may be fake or inaccurate. An AI tool to counter deviant AI.

BrentWorks notes that some lawyers do not use AI to draft documents, but opposing counsel may have used AI, and it is good to know whether documents were created by AI and whether some information is fake.
