Stand with Cryptoan association backed by multiple crypto organizations, hand-delivered a petition demanding Congress move forward on the issue. CLARITY Act.
Stand with Crypto, a nonprofit organization, has a mission to represent the more than 52 million Americans who hold crypto assets. The aim is to enact “common-sense regulations” and encourage innovation for “greater economic freedom.” To date, Stand with Crypto has donated more than half a million advocates, according to their website.
One of the group’s first initiatives is a petition asking the Senate Banking Committee to introduce the CLARITY Act, crypto market infrastructure legislation that remains uncertain. The signed petition was delivered to Congress today with more than 28,000 signatures. Supporter names are still being accepted for the petition.
The petition states the following:
“The CLARITY Act will end the regulatory uncertainty that forces crypto users, developers, and companies to operate in gray areas — a problem that persists every day this legislation is delayed. The CLARITY Act would create a clear and comprehensive framework that protects consumers from fraud and abuse, encourages the creation and broader adoption of innovative technologies, and strengthens national security by ensuring the economy of the future is built in the United States.”
Adding:
“We cannot afford any further delays. We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to lead the world in digital asset technology and make the financial tools of the future accessible to every American.”
The CLARITY Act was largely supported by the legacy banking industry, which feared competition from digital asset firms. A major hurdle is that if stablecoin holders earn returns or interest, it could cause some bank depositors to divert money away from banks. Banks don’t want to pay higher interest rates to keep their customers; Some do not currently pay interest on deposits. Therefore, there are concerns that profits will decrease due to potential competition.
Today we hand-delivered a message to Washington.
This week, more than 28,000 Americans signed our petition and asked the Senate for one thing: to pass the CLARITY Act.
We are watching. We are organized. And we vote. 🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/DHVSjNQqBd
